There are numerous standards for evaluating electromagnetic immunity and susceptibility. This testing is performed to determine if a product can function as specified when exposed to electrical, magnetic, and radio frequency, emissions and disturbances.
MIL-STD-461
The most prevalent standard for developmental stage electromagnetic compatibility evaluation of military and aerospace products is MIL-STD-461. This standard is comprised of nineteen test methods that address Radiated Emissions (RE), Conducted Emissions (CE), Radiated Susceptibility (RS), and Conducted Susceptibility (CS). Each of these methods have requirements for level and bandwidth of exposure for intended applications.
There are ten separate methods for Conducted Susceptibility that address such factors as power leads, antenna ports, structure current, bulk cable impulse signals, and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) from personnel. Radiated Susceptibility tests include methods to address frequencies in the magnetic field and electromagnetic field.
Power Distribution System Standards
System power distribution systems distribute specific spikes, surges, ripple, and variances in voltage and frequencies. MIL-STD-1275 addresses those electrical fluctuations on 28 Volt military vehicle systems and includes voltage fluctuations associated with starting disturbances. For equipment intended for shipboard application, MIL-STD-1399-300B provides testing methods that include frequency distortions for AC power systems. Military Aircraft systems require testing per MIL-STD-704.
CVG Strategy EZ-Test Plan Templates
CVG Strategy provides a wide array of test plan templates for electromagnetic immunity and susceptibility testing. This documentation ensures that testing is performed accurately and that necessary data is collected. These documents help communicate test requirements to test facility operators and test engineers. Test plans are available for the following standards:
- MIL-STD-461
- MIL-STD-704
- MIL-STD-1275
- MIL-STD-1399-300B
MIL-STD-461 has differing requirements for Equipment Under Test (EUT) based on intended application. CVG Strategy test plans are available for Ground Mobile, Ground Stationary, Shipboard Controlled, Shipboard Uncontrolled, and Aircraft Military categories
